Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride: Castlemaine 2026

The 2026 Castlemaine Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride (DGR)  took place on Sunday, May 17, 2026. Over 100 local riders dressed in dapper attire gathered at the Castlemaine RSL to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer and men's mental health. 

Motorcycle journalist and organiser, Brian Rix remained optimistic as news came through that wet weather across Victoria, had caused the cancellation of a number of other DGRs. The gritty Castlemaine riders remained undaunted and arrived in great numbers to be greeted by a cuppa and piece of home made sponge (delicious by. the way) at the local RSL. This group has raised thousands for men’s health over the years and this year would not be subdued by the weather.

Some amazing machines were wheeled off trailers and most others got into the spirit with leather traded for Burberry, plaid and wool.  A few wonderfully waxed handlebar moustaches were spotted in the assembled crowd.  

Each year, prior to the ride commencing, organisers invite a guest speaker to support the themes of improving men’s health. This year Psychs on Bikes was given the honour of greeting the crowd (after a cuppa) and talking about the importance of friends and riding buddies not being afraid to be the first in line in opening conversations about how their mates are travelling. Support from GPs and mental health professionals is often available but too often, they are not the first people men will turn to. They will speak with friends and family if those concerned are able to push past the initial dismissal and just listen.

They acknowledged their role as ambassadors for promoting the importance of courageous conversations and judging by the questions and comments received before legs were thrown over motorcycles, the crowd were appreciative of the reminder and their importance to promoting men’s mental health.
