BIG RIDE 2017 - ITINERARY
Note that there will a briefing at the start of each day. Unless notified otherwise, the briefing will occur at 8.30 a.m. at the Visitors’ Centre of that town. If the town doesn’t have a Visitors’ Centre, it’ll be so small that we’ll just meet in the Main Street and it should be easy to find each other.
Day 1: Saturday April 15 – Brisbane to Goondiwindi (via Toowoomba)
8:30 → 10:00 – Breakfast and pre-ride briefing at New Farm Clinic. Info provided by Sue Sumskis (health checks), Stephen Davies (instructions on riding as a group and legal considerations) and Joe Dunn (chairperson and Psychs in the Pub). Possible media presence and ride out with Ulysses.
12:30 – Ride in to Toowoomba with the Toowoomba Men’s Shed, local bike clubs & private riders (meet up point at 12:00 @ Helidon Spa) for bbq @ Bell St Mall, covered by the Chronicle.
14:30 – Meet at Towoomba Information Centre to ride out of town with the Darling Downs Riders
17:30 – In Goondiwindi, the Psychs will partner with Rural Sky to offer free Men’s Health Checks at the Easter on the Macintyre (a riverside festival and fireworks display put on by Goondiwindi Regional Council).
Day 2: Sunday April 16 – Goondiwindi to St George
11:00 – Photo Op with Mayor of Goondiwindi for the Goondiwindi Argus.
19:00 → late – Psychs in the Pub held @ Cobb & Co in their beer garden, covered by Balonne Beacon.
Day 3: Monday April 17 – St George to Roma
Earlier – Joe Dunn interview with 2ZR (TBC)
19:00 → late: Psychs in the Pub held @ Irish McGann’s at the Queen’s Arms, covered by Balonne Beacon and the Western Star
Day 4: Tuesday April 18 – Roma to Carnarvon Gorge
08:30-09:30 – Discount breakfast at the Blue Shed Fish and Chips Café, 87 Charles Street
10:00 → 12:00 – (split group)
Free Men’s Health Checks @ the Roma Saleyards. PoB will be in partnership with QLD Health (represented by Tegan Russell) & Maranoa Regional Council as part of their Be Healthy & Safe Initiative (represented by Annaliese St George). Annaliese & Tegan will be present on the day and will be conducting regular Men’s Health Checks there following on from PoB’s visit.

Day 5: Wednesday April 19 – Carnarvon Gorge
Guided walk through Carnarvon Gorge
Day 6: Thursday April 20 - Carnarvon Gorge to Emerald
11:00 → 13:00 – Health Checks @ the Rollestone Community Hall, Planet St Rollestone
14:00 → 16:30 – (split group)
High-school visit @ Springsure High School (55 Eclipse Ln, Springsure)
14:00 → 15:00 - presentation to Years 7-10.
15:15 → 16:30 - presentation to staff.
‘Hand in Hand’ Community Groups visit and Men’s Health Checks @ Bauhinia Hall, Eclipse St, Springsure.
19:00 → late - Gourmet burger BBQ with Emerald Men’s Shed, Council representatives (approx. 3) & partners and families @ McIndoe Park, Opal St, Emerald.
Day 7: Friday April 21 – Emerald to Biloela
7:30 → 8:30 – Casual Council sponsored breakfast with Emerald Council staff and Councillors, GP’s and health practitioners, hospital staff, school Principals and Guidance Officers and Interagency members. Partnering with Anglicare. Held @ Central Highlands Regional Council building (undercover carpark), cnr Egerton and Borilla Sts.
12:30 → 16:30 – PoB ½ Day Conference in Biloela @ room provided by Banana Shire Council, Biloela Office, 62 Valentine Plains Rd. Contact is Robyn Miles (Community Development Officer for Banana Shire Council) phone 07 4992 9500.
Day 8: Saturday April 21 – Biloela to Sunshine Coast
Meet-up with Ulysseans from Bundaberg
13:00 – Lunch with Ulysseans at Hideaway Hotel, Tiaro
Day 9: Sunday April 22 – Sunshine Cost to Brisbane
9:00 → 10:30: Committee meeting @ Caloundra Hotel.
10:45: Meet up with any Ulysseans or other riders at Cochin Creek Shell Station
12:00 → 13:30 – End of Ride Party @ New Farm Clinic, Brisbane.
14:00 – Dr Joe Dunn to have discussion with representative with Bikesonly
